Marketing + Outreach Coordinator (remote)

Access to Media Education (AMES), a dynamic non-profit established 27 years ago, is looking for a student to play a key role in promoting FLEX: Digital Exercises to Boost Creative + Critical ReFLEXivity, one of AMES latest initiatives. Briefly, FLEX is a suite of digital resources designed to increase people’s capacity to notice, name and respond to inequities in everyday life. Cross Roads, a center piece of the FLEX suite will be launching this fall.

As the Marketing and Outreach Coordinator, your creative input and vision will be valued, and your experience expanded through this 2-month position (with options to extend) that involves hands-on and meaningful application of your emerging marketing and digital strategizing capacities.

This position will involve working with and learning from a creative team (that includes AMES staff, and project-collaborators, and dedicated mentors) to:

  • Assess the unique characteristics of FLEX products and services and identify potential users/audiences;
  • Co-develop, implement and evaluate communications strategies to promote the FLEX suite within the education sector and among the general public;
  • Co­develop and implement social media campaigns appropriate for students (insta/TikTok/FaceBook);
  • Gather, research and prepare briefs, presentations, web pages, press releases, brochures, newsletters and other communications material to increase awareness of the FLEX resources and applications;
  • Initiate and maintain contact with the media.
  • Help plan for the Cross Roads launch .

Interns will:

  • Be tech-savvy, self-motivated, adept at creative problem solving and working both collaboratively and independently.
  • Have well developed written and verbal communication skills (both online and in person).
  • Be proficiency with online strategy development, and communicating via website and social media platforms.
  • Have effective and adaptive planning and time management skills.
  • Be able to put themselves in the shoes of the people they are designing for.
  • Have experience working with diverse communities, an interest in integrating art, technology, and education, and be well versed in and passionate about social and climate justice.
  • Be between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the position.
  • Have completed post-secondary studies.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada (either a citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee status – work permits are not eligible).

Start: Mid- to Early June 2023.

Remuneration: $22-26/ hour (commensurate with skills and experience) x 22-28 hours a week for 2 months (with a possibility of extension).

Education Consultant + Researcher (remote)

Access to Media Education (AMES), and the Institute For Multidisciplinary Ecological Research In The Salish Sea (IMERSS) are looking to fill two short term positions to help move forward a series of interconnected activities we are working on in the areas of:

  • Indigenous centred Environmental Education.
  • Cultural mapping and biodiversity monitoring.
  • Hul’q’umi’num language learning.
  • Reconciliation-action-related research.
  • Knowledge-sharing: using technology to share local knowledge about local habitats.

Given the wide scope of activities, and depending upon the skills and interest of the candidates, the position would involve working with and learning from a creative team (that includes AMES and IMERSS staff, and project-collaboration) to engage in some of the following tasks:

  • Ecocultural Mapping – research on the social and cultural relationships between locals (Indigenous and non-Indigenous) and the land–past, present and future.
  • Researching local, plants, medicines and places of local significance (including Hul’q’umi’num names) and integrate with local biodiversity monitoring efforts.
  • Working with a team to build a website that promotes knowledge sharing (where appropriate and in keeping with cultural protocols) and collaborate on other educational interventions.
  • Gathering and assessing a range of learning resources and toolkits about cultural safety and cultural humility to be shared with local organizations to support ongoing reconcili-action efforts.

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada (either a citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee status – work permits are not eligible).
  • Reside in British Columbia.

Start: June 2023.

Remuneration: $21-26/ hour (commensurate with skills and experience) x 25-30 hours a week for 2 months (with a possibility of extension).
