This up-coming month, 12 youth will be involved in a radical video making experience and you could be one of them! They will be writing, filming and editing new videos all in 4 days. By the end of the project we will have 12 videos in 1 zine ready to be sent out to stores, friends and festivals.
The Urban Outreach Center, located at 260 Raymur in Vancouver, is providing an opportunity to its members and their friends to take part in 2 days of workshops. These workshops will include the art of simplicity, visual storytelling, media literacy, and camera basics. Upon completion, the participants have access to camera gear for one day each to get their ideas captured. Following that - they will have 1 day to edit their piece at the Urban Outreach Center, all with full technical support.
This is the second installment of DIY –(on the fly). The 1st series mentored by Vancouver filmmakers Mesoo Lee and Hayley Sinclair worked with 12 youth, and no budget. The films were premiered at Video In studios. Considering the no budget factor, the zine did amazingly well. The financial support by the Vancouver Foundation Youth Philanthropy Council and the Canada Council for the Arts for volume 2 has enabled this project to support it’s participants further by providing child care subsidies, free tape stock and distribution costs without losing the spontaneity and serendipity that working with our own resources creates.
The start date of this project is Sept. 20th/2003 and all interested participants should contact Hayley Sinclair at the Urban Outreach Center before Sept. 12th/2003 This project will cost you nothing but your time.
