The Street Cred' Collexion

Urban Outreach is hosting an 8-day workshop for 6 street youth in Vancouver. These youth will be developing 2 collaborative stories, shooting, editing and distributing their video.

The Access To Media Education Society (AMES) is to premier three new films from the "STREET CRED' COLLEXION". These films are created as part of the Get the Word Out video project (GWO) with Vancouver street youth. The United Way, VanCity, Vancouver Foundation and AMES provided financial assistance.

The April 13th screening at Vancouver's Video In marks the successful completion of a three-week workshop for these youth. In that time, they learned the art of storytelling, production and post-production techniques. The films created reflect the urgency and the power of giving the tools to traditionally marginalized people in our community.

AMES's Get the Word Out project has currently completed five films with non-profits and organization in the Lower Mainland. With topics ranging from globalization, created by Check your Head; to rape and justice created by The Anti-Patti Project. These three new films examine De-Schooling; patriotism and a fresh look at the characters that participate in the art of dumpster diving.

Get The Word Out (GWO) is mentored and facilitated by Hayley Sinclair, an East Van video activist who has operated the Urban Outreach center in Vancouver for the past 2 years. In that time, the center has produced a great volume of work for the activist community, educators, and those interested in social justice.

The Street Cred' Collexion is an opportunity for members of the street youth community to lend some creativity, thoughts and interests to the general public. Having complete control over all aspects of the creation of these films, Street Cred' participants have nailed the art of video making. Their films are generous, hilarious and prove that storytelling is a radical act.

The Street Cred' Collexion screens Sunday, April 13th / 2003 at Video In studio (1965 Main) at 8 p.m.

The Access to Media Education Society's (AMES) Urban Outeach would like to invite your organization to apply to participate in Get The Word Out (GWO), a fully subsidized program that helps organizations like yours gain "hands-on" media production experience while "getting the word out" about your causes and concerns.
