Thank you all…
To the people who came I thank you for your support. To Video In for the space and the ever-so helpful volunteers and tech. To Jovian and my hairstylist for shamelessly spreading the word…to mark for working the table even though you were blue…to #none for dragging your gear out and spinning and dragging your gear home…to all those who posed questions. And to our Filmmakers for being inspiring, gracious and generous. It was a privilege to work with you all and I hope to again. Loreto, Brian, Lashen and Sharia, I wish you all well for all your future projects and I am glad you are existing in my world. Thanks for the Pat - Tree- archy…(hee) and the nummy cake. And of course to Deb who allows me to work for her and allows me to create these moments with people…you were missed.
Humm…anyone else?
Luv rage and a bit of a smirk

--The goal of our speaking must be to develop a new
understanding that violence is the resort of
the resourceless; that poverty, sexism, and
racism provide the seedbed for its development;

A film by Brian Williams
Created at the Urban Outreach center
Armed with a backpack, a video camera and a stick-it-to-tha-man sense of adventure- a guy named Brian (anarchist, anthropologist, youth worker, dad and filmmaker, among other things…) takes the viewer along on his hitchhiking journey from Vancouver to the Yukon and back. Share Brian's honest journal-style observations as he comes across spruce trees the size locomotives, nauseating ecological disasters, and irritating wealthy American tourist in RVs. Watch a vegan eating salmon even!
Completely amateurish, and at times self-indulgent, this is an unapologetic tale of DIY low-budget travel. Like a Lonely Planet episode tailored for punk-ass kids on a budget. Hitch provides left-leaning social commentary, and some laughs and tears along the way. Get ready for a video zine that informs and inspires.
(Documentary. 2002. 31 minutes)

Premier of "Suck my Patriarchy" Feb. 14th
"by buying into the whole notion of romantic love you're sacrificing your
independence and identities to support an oppressive political ideology
reinforcing gender role stereotyping - requiring women be demure and
submissive while men be assertive and dominant. now have a lovely evening celebrating a day that is an institutionalized reminder of your enslavement to the patriarchy. i pity you."
has a much better ring than "happy valentine's day," don't you think?
but really folks...urban outreach is having a fundraiser and premiering a "Get the Word Out" film created by the Anti-Patti group on the 14th of feb. "Suck my Patriarchy" is a film that examines patriarchy, sexism, and rape in our society - both in its overt and subtle forms. These issues are so pervasive in our world, even in activist communities, but are rarely addressed because they've become so normalized. Through an anti- oppressive and consensus-based decision-making process, the members of Anti-patti produced a hard-hitting art piece that blows the issue wide open.
