Focusing on the visions and views of three emerging First Nations artists, this piece explores the role video is playing in helping Native youth tell their stories, recover their culture and develop their voices.
This video is produced by the Access to Media Education Society's Peer Perspective Program, and is available for viewing online, or copies can be ordered.
Classroom facilitations are also available with this program and feature thought-provoking discussion around the issues raised in the video. In addition, the group has developed learning resource packages for teachers.

Featuring candid stories about the challenges of coming out, Outlet reminds us how complex identity is and how rarely people are supported in exploring it. Above all, this video celebrates people for having the courage to be true to themselves--whatever their orientation.

The Black Community in the History of Québec and Canada. Primary and Secondary Source Materials.
The Québec Board of Black Educators and the Provincial Association of Social Studies Teachers collaborated with the Ministère to "supply some of the "missing pages" in print materials most generally used by students in elementary and secondary schools. Materials that focus upon Blacks in the history of Québec and Canada help learners to understand more fully the social and cultural realities of the past centuries. These pages depict joy and sorrow, struggle and triumph, courage and determination."

"The KIT" - a manual by youth to combat racism through education

This manual was produced in 2002 though the United Nations of Canada and is available online on the Youth Forums Against Racism site.
The KIT is a "bilingual manual containing 61 pages of information, history, resources, and tools for anti-racism education. The manual has been created by youth for youth, but is also useful for educators, parents, community leaders, anti-racism activists, ethnocultural groups, and non-governmental organizations." "Challenging Homophobia In Schools"

This teacher's resource book, "Challenging Homophobia In Schools" (2000. Vancouver) is a comprehensive new professional resource produced by Gay and Lesbian Educators of BC (GALE-BC).
Their site features some sample lesson plans.
"This resource includes lots of practical lesson plans from K-12 as well as a rationale on why schools need to teach about sexual orientation. A comprehensive background section on homophobia and heterosexism includes information on: negative myths perpetuated against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, coming out issues, counselling ideas, violence prevention strategies, dealing with anti-gay slurs and how to support students by starting gay-straight alliances in schools.
Teachers are provided with lots of concrete, practical strategies and lesson plans written by classroom teachers. The resource section provides a wide range of age-appropriate classroom resources from K-12 as well as parent and professional resources. Community groups and support services for LGBT people and relevant web sites are also listed." (quote from site)

It provides case studies for classroom discussion, with a focus on hate crimes, as well as strategies and resources for follow up. WCHD is a registered non profit organization dedicated to fighting racism.
